Match 1 - Cudworth
3 May 2003
Despite some last minute reshuffling of the team there was a very satisfactory 2nd placing for the Lincoln Wellington men's
team in their opening Northern League division 2 match of the season at Cudworth. Three events brought the club maximum points
with new member Ronnie McWilliam scoring impressively in the 3000m steeplechase in 10.01.1 and Jason Hall taking the 'B' race
in equally emphatic fashion in 10.22.0. In the 5000m Tom Doe made all the running for a comfortable win in 15.15.0 and Simon
Bell was well clear in the 'B' contest in 15.53.7. Nigel and Garry Winchcombe picked up maximum points in the hammer with
39.94m and 33.76m respectively. Richard Blagrove produced a couple of good winning efforts in taking the 800m in 1.56.8 and
the 1500m in 4.05.3 and Steve Blagdon looked sharp when winning the 200m in 23.3 and finishing 2nd in the 100m in 11.7. New
member Keith Ridgeway had a busy afternoon. He cleared 2.90m for 3rd place in the pole vault, finished 5th in the 100m hurdles
in 21.5 and also picked up 5th places in the discus (29.40m) and the shot (10.02m). Adey White also weighed in with some good
points and grabbed 3rd places in the 'B' pole vault with 2.10m, 'B' discus (27.85m), 'B' hurdles (21.4) and 'B' javelin in
34.90m. Phil Mackie cleared 5.87m for 3rd place in the long jump and was also 5th in the triple jump with 11.89m and in the
'B' events Steve Swaby collected 2nd places with 5.53m and 11.28m. Geoff Powley threw the javelin 39.84m for 5th place and
scored useful points in the 400m, 100m and high jump. And a good effort from Malc Bramhall gave him 3rd spot in the 400m
hurdles in 61.8.
