There was some heavy scoring from the Lincoln Wellington squad at the opening Lincolnshire League track and field meeting of
the season at Grantham. A very stiff breeze was no help at all to the track athletes but this did not prevent a succession of
winning Wellington performances with the middle distance squad particularly racking up a number of fine performances. One of
the highlights was a terrific front running win for Jake Coyle in the under 13 boys 1500 metres. He kept going very strongly
to cross the line in an excellent time of 5.03.0 and looks sure to go quicker in more favourable conditions. In the same age
group a clearance of 1.25m gave Dan Cocking a win in the high jump. A powerful finish won the under 15 boys 1500m for Ashley
Smith in 5.05.4 and Elliott Haywood took the runner up spot in the 3000m in 11.51.0. New member Tom Ridgeway made a good
start by winning the under 17's discus with 28.39m, javelin with 26.70m and shot with 9.44m. Danny Roome took the 1500m in
4.32.3 with Mark Plaskett 2nd in 4.54.8. And Tom Herbert was 2nd in the 3000m in 10.18.3. In the under 20 age group Will
Strangeway won the 3000m in 10.11.3 and Michael White was 2nd in the 100m in 12.1. Tom Doe front ran the senior 3000m to
win impressively in 8.57.6. Steve Swaby won the triple jump with 10.53m and Steve Marshall contested six individual events,
winning the high jump with 1.30m. A good throw of 31.03m won Keith Ridgeway the veteran's discus and he also took the pole
vault with a clearance of 2.70m. Malc Bramhall was runner up in both the 100m (13.0) and the 200m (25.7).
