Glasgow
15-16 February 2003
Wellington's star veteran athlete Dorothy Fraser added three more gold medals to her considerable collection with a trio of
victories at the British Masters Indoor Championships in Glasgow. Competing in the W65 category she won the 60 metres in
10.32, took the 200m in 35.52 and also annexed the 400m in 81.37 to maintain her dominance of the domestic scene. Sterner
tasks await her in the forthcoming European Masters Championships in San Sebastian. Three other Wellington veterans competed
and all returned with medals. Betty Stracey claimed gold in the W60 3000m in 14.12.6 and followed with a silver in the
1500m in 6.58.66. Geoff Powley broke a number of club records as he put together a fine string of performances to take the
bronze medal in the pentathlon. He recorded 9.88 in the 60m hurdles, 5.48m in the long jump, 9.03m in the shot, 1.57m in the
high jump and a pretty nippy 2.57.75 in the 1000m. A final medal went to Denise Timmis in the W40 60m in which she placed 3rd
in 8.59. She just missed out on a further medal with a leap of 4.50m taking her into 4th spot in the long jump.
