There was a good effort from Sarah Coates to finish 69th in the under 17 women's race. Tash Johnson put in some good work in
the later stages to finish 170th with Emily Taylor 187th and Alice Thomas 229th. Ian Kimpton was quite satisfied with his
effort for 177th position in the under 17 men's race after a period of illness but a bout of stitch gave Will Strangeway problems and he was a little
further back in 189th. Charlotte Hanson did pretty well to take 175th place in the under 13 girl's race and Lara Thomas kept
going well in the same race to finish 275th. Rachel Humberstone led in the Wellington quartet in the under 15 girls race in
196th spot. Sarah Kimpton came back 252nd after a dreadful start with Kelly Gilbert 257th and Josina Clarke 276th. Jake Coyle enjoyed a good run
round in the under 13 boy's contest to finish in 181st place.

Wollaton Park, Nottingham
8 February 2003
A hectic period in the cross country season continued for the athletes of Lincoln Wellington and many of the squad represented
the various Lincolnshire teams at the Reebok Inter Counties meeting at Wollaton Park, Nottingham. Conditions were excellent
for easily the top meeting of the winter season and virtually every race comprised around 300 of the top athletes from
England, Scotland and Wales. Everyone of the Wellington athletes ran with credit and for some of the younger members the
experience was invaluable. There were two particularly outstanding performances with the very promising Danny Roome leading
the way with a superb run for 21st place in the under 15 boys race. His start was much more aggressive than his previous
effort at the Northern Championships and he was always in the firing line. He kept going strongly and was within close touch
of the best in the country at the finish. On a training regime that is still quite limited this was a terrific effort. Tom
Herbert had not been too well leading up to the race and in the circumstances 181st place was entirely satisfactory. And the
much improved Mark Plaskett also did very well to be a few places back in 203rd spot. The other remarkable Wellington run
came from Lucinda Pitcher who crossed the line 28th in a junior women's race of the very highest quality. Her tactics were
spot on and after a sensible opening on the tough uphill stretch she could be seen making rapid progress. This was maintained
throughout most of the race and her strength on the hilly sections was particularly noticeable. She has a further two years
as a junior and her exemplary attitude to hard training could see her reaching a very high standard in that timescale.
