Atrocious weather and a glue pot course made the going extremely testing for the athletes of Lincoln Wellington at the 3rd
Lincolnshire League match of the season on Lincoln's West Common. There were however plenty of outstanding individual
performances to lighten the gloom with the U13 girl's squad leading the way. Blue Haywood was in irrepressible form and
bounded round the course for a most impressive win. Charlotte Hanson chased hard for 2nd place and Lara Thomas was not far
behind her in 3rd spot to complete a Wellington clean sweep. Rebecca Jackson picked up 5th place with Charlotte Grey 8th and
Helen Penistan 13th. Sarah Coates was another who revelled in the mud and she was almost a minute clear at the line in the
U17 women's race. Emily Taylor kept going strongly for 3rd place and
Alice Thomas in 4th completed the winning team. Another
good team win came in the U15 boy's race with Danny Roome finishing full of running to win by a very big margin. Mark Plaskett
turned in a good effort to finish 3rd and Dexter Haywood clinched the team result with 5th. Claire Gregory was also
a clear cut winner for the club in the junior/senior/veteran women's race. Margaret Thompson ran well after a lay off to
finish 3rd with Rebecca Cansdale completing the 'A' team in 12th. Veterans Jane Ramsden and Pat Kimpton were next to finish
in 18th and 20th places respectively with Tracy Carnall 26th and veteran Dot Fraser 27th. Ian Kimpton produced a strong run
for 3rd place in the U17 men's race and Will Strangeway finished well in the same event to take 6th spot. Rachel Humberstone
was just unable to peg back the leader in the U15 girl's race but ran well for 2nd and was followed in by Kelly Gilbert 5th
and Josina Clarke 8th.
Jake Coyle was 1st U13 boy back for Wellington in a close up 5th place with Elliot Haywood right behind in 6th and Jack
Ramsden 9th. . Some of the club's senior men have still to launch their winter campaigns and new member Graham Wright was
first scorer in that race in 23rd position. Richard Diamond went well for 34th place with veterans Jim Edwards and Geoff
Powley 41st and 47th respectively. Bill Delaney was a little further back in 55th with Dave Strangeway completing the squad
in 68th. The league is now catering for the U11 age group with boys and girls racing together. There was a highly promising
performance from Chelsea Coyle who was 3rd overall, (first girl) and looks a real prospect.
Jonathan and Neil Humberstone
both ran well for 4th and 6th places respectively with Sophie Delaney picking up 8th spot after falling at the start and
Hester Talbot finishing just behind her in 9th.
The club will host its annual Christmas handicap race on the West Common on December 22nd starting at 11.00a.m. Guest
runners are welcome to participate.
