Eastern Counties XC Championships
24 November 2002

The young athletes of Lincoln Wellington were well in the medals at the Eastern Counties Cross Country Championships at Peterborough and it was the under 13 age group which led the way with team gold medals in both races. In the girls contest Blue Haywood ran very strongly to pick up the individual silver medal and was well supported by Charlotte Hanson in 6th place and Rebecca Jackson who was 9th. Charlotte Gray and Lara Thomas were a little further back in 14th and 15th places respectively. Dan Cocking produced his best result for the club with 3rd spot in the boy's race. And the winning team was completed by Elliott Haywood in 4th and Jack Ramsden 7th. A further team gold came in the under 17 womens race. Sarah Coates took the bronze medal and was joined on the podium by Emily Taylor who finished 5th and Alice Thomas in 7th position. Rachel Humberstone was first Wellington runner home in the under 15 girls race with a good effort for 7th place. Liz Harley was next in 10th position with Sarah Kimpton 12th and Kelly Gilbert 13th. Josina Clarke in 18th place and Katie Campion 24th completed the squad which took the team bronze medals. Tom Herbert got spiked during the under 15 boys race but kept going well to finish 7th. Mark Plaskett was not far behind in 10th with Dexter Haywood just behind him in 12th place. New member Ashley Smith finished 18th with Alex Thomas in 22nd position. Wellington were also in the medals in the senior womens contest. Claire Gregory ran pretty well to finish 7th and Pat Kimpton 14th (2nd V35) and Jane Ramsden 15th (3rd V35) were delighted to make up the silver medal winning squad. Doughty veteran Dot Fraser did well to finish just behind this pair in 16th spot. In the senior mens race Dave Humberstone enjoyed a good run round to finish 23rd but Rebecca Cansdale, who is still a bit short on training, found the going very tough when finishing 6th in the under 20 womens race.
