National Road Relays
Sutton Park
26 October 2002

Three teams of four from Lincoln Wellington represented the club at the Women's National Road Relays at Sutton Park Birmingham over a 4.3 kilometre circuit which was made all the more testing due to the very windy conditions. Eighty two teams set out on the first leg and there was a very creditable performance from the Wellington A squad who finished the race in 37th position against some very big name outfits. Annette Bell took the tough opening leg and was up against some pretty serious opposition. In the circumstances she did very well to come back in 16 minutes 56 seconds for 50th place. Claire Gregory moved through well on the second leg to pick up to pick up six places in 17.27. And Rowena Harrison gained one more place on the 3rd leg with a time of 18.05 - a good effort considering her lack of recent training after a considerable lay-off during the summer. A great run from Jacqui Brown, whose winter training has started very well, picked up another six places for Wellington on the final leg and her time of 17.13 was over a minute faster than in the same event last year.

For the B team Kathy Warhurst went off first but was a little disappointed with her finishing time of 18.19. Katie Tilley was round in 18.34 on leg two before Margaret Thompson produced a corker on the 3rd leg, despite a twisted ankle during her warm up, to come back in 17.41. Anne Gilroy completed the B team with 19.36 on the final leg for 56th spot at the finish. New member Danni Whitehouse led the C team off in 23.05 and was followed by Rebecca Rowley who was marginally slower in 23.15. Pat Kimpton ran strongly on the 3rd leg to finish in 22.55 with another new member, Heather Burke finishing in 22.19 to place the squad 70th. It was extremely encouraging to put out three complete teams and much credit goes to Anne Gilroy who has worked hard to develop her road running squad.
