There were good performances from the three under 15 girls who ran with Rachel Humberstone coming out on top in 3rd place.
Josina Clarke did particularly well to finish 5th with Sarah Kimpton just behind her in 6th. Elliott Haywood confirmed his
position at the head of the club's under 13 rankings by finishing a close up 5th in his race. Jack Ramsden and Jake Coyle
were close behind in 7th and 8th respectively and Henry Naughton finished 11th. Adie Marston was the club's sole senior
men's representative and a steady run gave him a satisfactory 12th place from the 68 finishers.
Grantham
20 October 2002
With the National Road Relays and the National Cross Country Relays on many of the squad's agenda in the next couple of weeks
quite a few Lincoln Wellington athletes gave the latest Lincolnshire League cross country match at Alma Woods, Grantham a
miss. On a very tough course there was still some outstanding running from some of the club's athletes who did attend and
in the under 13 girl's race Blue Haywood turned in another dominant performance to come back well clear of the remainder
of the field. Charlotte Hanson chased hard for 2nd place and produced her best effort so far for the club and Lara Thomas
completed the winning team when crossing the line 6th. Charlotte Gray ran a very promising race for 7th with Rebecca Jackson
13th, Helen Penistan 18th and Odette Clarke 27th completing a very strong Wellington team. There was a gritty effort from
the much improved Tom Herbert to win the under 15 boy's race. He was some way off the pace in the early stages but despite
suffering an ankle sprain he got to the front after halfway and managed to prevail in a very tight finish. Dexter Haywood
was not far back in 3rd and Mark Plaskett completed another successful team effort when taking 7th place. Alex Thomas kept
going well to finish 14th. In the junior/senior women's race there was another good effort from 17 year old Lucinda Pitcher
following her win in the opening match of the season. On this occasion she found the experienced Louise Day of Stamford
Harriers just too strong in the closing stages but 2nd place was still a fine achievement and she looks a very good prospect
for the club. Kathy Warhurst was next to finish in 5th place with Hayley Fox doing very well on a rare outing over the
country to finish 19th. Jane Ramsden in 26th place Pat Kimpton 28th and supervet Dot Fraser who finished 31st all produced
very useful efforts.
