Derby
12 October 2002
There was a great start to the cross country season for Lincoln Wellington's Rachael Nathan when she took the scalp of senior
Great Britain international and steeplechase record holder Tara Krzywicki in a North Midlands league match at Derby. The
Lincoln sixteen year old tracked her senior rival from the start of the 4700 metres event and refused to be shaken off.
With the finish line in sight Nathan delivered her challenge and her speed in the closing stages gave her a narrow but
decisive victory. Another great run at the same meeting came from Josh Stone in the under 15 boy's race. He has only been
back in training for a few weeks following a midsummer break but he ran very strongly to finish 2nd in a good class field
of over 40 starters. He looks set for a rewarding winter. Tom Herbert also did well to cross the line in 18th place in the
same race and this is a very strong age group for the club. In a huge senior men's field, Adie Marston had a steady run
round to finish a satisfactory 58th on his seasonal debut.
