Lincs League T&F 5 - Grimsby
1 September 2002

The final match of the Lincolnshire Track and Field League took place at King George V Stadium, Grimsby with the Lincoln Wellington veteran men's squad recording some particularly fine performances. Multi-eventer Geoff Powley led the way with four individual victories. On the track he won the 100m in 12.7 and in the field he took the high jump with 1.50m, the long jump with 5.35m and the pole vault with 2.60m. He concluded a fruitful afternoon by picking up 2nd place in the shot with 9.15m and 3rd spot in the 400m in 57.2. Malc Bramhall won the latter event impressively in 53.8 and also scored in the 200m in 24.7. Adey Marston completed a Wellington 1-2-3 in the veteran men's 400m by taking the runner up position in 55.7 and this was all the more meritorious as he had previously won the mile in 4.50.2. The in form Tommy Doe produced a couple of good winning performances when taking the senior 400m in 52.8 and following up in the 800m with a time of 1.59.5. Adey White won the senior pole vault with a clearance of 3.20m and was 3rd in the high jump with 1.55m. This event was won by Steve Swaby who cleared 1.60m and then finished 2nd in the long jump with 5.50m.

In the under 17 age group Ian Kimpton recorded a debut 5000m win in a pretty decent time of 17.55.8. And Anthony Sherwin and Darren Coldron were 2nd and 3rd in the 100m with times of 12.3 and 12.5 respectively. Gary Cruickshank finished in 4th place in the 800m in 2.22.4. Michael White was the only under 20 competing for Wellington but a useful time of 11.8 was enough to win him the 100m. Wellington athletes took the first three places in the under 15's mile with Tom Herbert scoring fairly comfortably in 5.26.3. Mark Plaskitt was 2nd in 5.36.7 and Alex Thomas 3rd in 6.17.4. Matt Richardson just edged home in the under 13 boys 100m in 14.5 with Jon Jones a very close 2nd in 14.6 but the latter had some compensation when he won the 200m in 29.4. This pair were also 2nd and 4th in the long jump with Richardson recording 3.97m and Jones managing 3.78m. Elliott Haywood picked up 3rd spot in the under 13's mile in 5.59.0.

There was another eye catching performance from 11 year old Blue Haywood in the under 13 girls mile. She won by a big margin in a terrific time of 5.56.7. Lara Thomas also ran well to finish 2nd in 6.17.2 and Charlotte Hanson was 4th in 6.31.1. Odette Clarke was 2nd in the javelin with 15.43m and 3rd in the discus with 12.79m. There were good middle distance wins in the under 15 age group from Josina Clarke who took the 800m in 2.38.8 and from Rachel Humberstone who was well clear in the mile in 5.53.2 with Sarah Kimpton in 2nd place in 6.15.2. Hayley Fox cleared 2.50m to win the senior pole vault and Jacqui Brown easily won the 800m in 2.23.6 with Liz Ward runner up in 2.31.2 and Nina Forney in 4th place in 2.54.4 on her debut in the event. A final win went to Kathy Warhurst who took the veteran's 800m in 2.40.8.
