South Leeds
14 July 2002
The Wellington women's team just missed out on making the final of the Northern Knock Out cup. After being in 2nd place for
most of the day in their first round match at Leeds they were overtaken by the Kingston-Upon-Hull squad in the final relay.
A personal best clearance of 2.50m by Hayley Fox gave Wellington their one outright win of the match. Annette Bell ran
strongly for 2nd place in the 3000m in 10.46.4 and Liz Ward was 3rd in the 400m in
63.4 and 6th in the 200m in 27.9. A
good effort from Jacqui Brown gave her 2nd spot in the 800m in 2.20.0 and Nina Forney picked up good points with 3rd place
in the 100m in 13.2.A useful time of 5.17.8 was good enough for 4th place in the 1500m for Kathy Warhurst. Sarah Garrett
did well with 4th position in the 100m hurdles in 19.2 and she was also 4th in the hammer with 22.62m. A good long jump of
4.87m by Denise Timmis placed her 3rd in that event and Sharon Waller notched a trio of 4th places in the other field events
with 19.69m in the javelin, 9.20m in the triple jump and 7.56m in the shot.
