On the track Steve Blagdon proved his worth to the team finishing 2nd in the 100m in a time of 11.5 and winning the 200m in
22.7 seconds. In the 400m team captain Gary Johnson had a speedy workout and recorded his 3rd personal best in 3 events in
as many weeks. In the middle distance events Matt Bowser and Richard Blagrove swapped their main events with each other,
Bowser winning the 800m in 1.56.5 after a slow first lap he powered ahead with 350m to go and never looked like relinquishing
the lead. In the 1500m Blagrove took out the pace and after a fast first 800m the field were well strung out and there was
only 2 athletes in the reckoning. Unfortunately the Sheffield athlete was too strong in the final 100m, but Richard's time was
an encouraging 4.03.8. In the 5000m Simon Bell ran promisingly for 4th in 15.59.6 after a disappointing run the week before in
the league match.
Nick Marsh made his debut for the club. Unfortunately for him, he ran in the 10,000m and the heat of the day. Despite the
weather and this being his debut at the distance on the track Nick placed a creditable 5th in 36.52.2. Veteran of the team
Dean Houlton had a storming run for 2nd in the 3000m steeplechase in 10.25.4 and produced his 7th personal best of the
season in as many events. For this performance he was rewarded with Lincoln Wellingtons athlete of the match. Malcolm
Bramhall had a solid run in the 400m hurdles in 62.1.
In the field Steve Swaby finished 6th in the long jump in 5.21m, and 5th in the high jump in 1.65m. Luke Lovell competed
with severe bruising after falling off his motorcycle earlier in the week and was below his best finishing 6th in the
triple jump in 10.65m - a fine effort considering his circumstances.
Steve Marshall stepped in at the last minute and filled as many slots as he could, he finished 5th in the hammer in 14.80m
this the first time he had picked up the equipment so a fine effort. Steve also placed 7th in the discus in 23.02m,
6th in the shot putt with 7.11m and 7th in the javelin with 30.22m. Well done Steve a fine effort.
In the relays the Lincoln lads had 2 solid performances. In the 4 x 100m a quartet of Swaby, Lovell, Bramhall and Blagdon
finished 6th in 47.4 and the 4 x 400m quartet of Bowser, Johnson, Blagrove and Blagdon who competed in his 39th race of the
season ran well for 3rd in 3 minutes 30.3.
Many thanks must also be given to the people who turned out and gained a maximum amount of points for officiating - thank you.

South Leeds
14 July 2002
Lincoln Wellington AC travelled to the South Leeds stadium last Sunday to compete in the northern knockout semi-final. After
reaching the final last year the team had a lot to live up to. Against some of the big name clubs from the northern area,
the team struggled due to some big point scoring athletes unfortunately being missing from the field event side of the team. At
the end of the day the Lincoln lads placed 6th with the first 2 reaching the final - the big scoring athletes were sorely
missed.
