The current season's string of outstanding performances by Lincoln Wellington athletes was further extended when
multi-eventer Geoff Powley became the British Veteran's Pentathlon champion. His final score for the five events was
3110 points which was a comfortable 65 ahead of nearest rival Brian Slaughter from Eastbourne who is the reigning British
and European champion. Powley cleared a very useful 5.46m in the long jump and followed with a good javelin throw of
47.05m. In the 200m he recorded a speedy 25.3 and he finished with a discus throw of 24.98m and a time of 5.57.1 in the
1500m which clinched the title for him.
