International Call-up

Two of Lincoln Wellington Athletic Club's young athletes been selected to represent the Great. Britain and Northern Ireland under 20 team in a three-way international competition against Italy and Spain on Saturday at Gorizia in Italy.

Talented 16-year-old Rachael Nathan, who won two international vests on the track last season, will again be competing in the 3000 metres at which distance she is the reigning English Schools intermediate girls champion.

She recently competed in the UK Athletics trial race for the World Junior Championships at the Commonwealth Games Stadium in Manchester and, while she did not manage to achieve a very demanding qualifying time for that event, her second place in the race was clearly sufficient for the selectors to give her the nod for the Italy match.

Matt Bowser has followed his outstanding winter season with a string of top class performances on the track including an impressive win in a junior men's invitation 3000m at the Commonwealth Games trial meeting.

His recent personal best for 1500m of 3.48.1 places him second in the junior men's national rankings at the current time and it is in that event that he will pick up his debut international vest on the track.
