Race 2 Report
19 June 2002
Lincoln Wellington athletes were again in dominant form at the second of their midweek summer road races round the cycle
track at Yarborough Leisure Centre. The senior men's race was won quite impressively by Gary Johnson who covered the five
kilometre circuit in 16 minutes 16 seconds to take almost a minute off his previous best for the distance. He was never out
of the leading trio and drew away from team-mate Dean Houlton in the closing stages for a decisive win. The latter kept
going strongly and also recorded a personal best for the distance with a time of 16.24. Dave Humberstone finished in 10th
place in 19.21 with Anthony Gerundini one place back in 11th and multi-eventer Steve Marshall 14th in 20.35. Richard Diamond
completed the Wellington senior contingent in 16th place in 22.11. In the veteran's race Barry Carey was runner-up in 18.45
with Colin Blagrove 3rd in 18.56 and Brian Fox 5th in 19.07. Jim Edwards was immediately behind these three in 6th spot in
19.08 and Robin Johnson took another chunk off his best time when finishing 10th in 19.46. Jim Diamond crossed the line 18th
in 22.11 and Simon Kimpton came back in 25.59 for 20th place.
