Bowser was competing in a junior men's invitational 3000m event and faced a high quality field. He was never far off the
pace and after increasing the tempo at halfway he was clear of favourite Tom Sharland in the closing laps. His rival led
at the bell but down the back straight Bowser stretched away and crossed the line a decisive winner in a new personal best
time of 8 mins 20.6 secs. With this win under his belt he will now be chasing the qualifying mark of 3 minutes 45 seconds
for the 1500m at the World Junior Championships in Jamaica in July.
Despite not being eligible for the juniors until next season, 16-year-old Rachael Nathan was competing in the official
junior women's trial for 3000m at the World Junior Championships. After a very slow first lap it was the highly rated
Sally Oldfield, two years senior to Nathan, who injected some pace and strung out the field. The Lincoln athlete went with
her and the pair had the race between them from halfway. Nathan looked poised to strike with 300m remaining but Oldfield
kept the pace going and was stronger in the run to the line. Nathan's time of 9.34.9 was her 2nd best for the distance
and places her at number two in the current national under 17 rankings. Her main target for the season will be to retain
her title at the Schools Championships in Nottingham next month.
