The in-form Jenny Pacey was the star athlete for Lincoln Wellington on the 2nd day of the County Track & Field Championships at Grantham. Three more wins to add to the brace she achieved on the first day gave her a remarkable haul of 5 gold medals and one bronze from six events contested. She opened the 2nd day with a win in the 100m hurdles in 16.2 and went on to take the long jump with 5.32m and the high jump with 1.60m. In the 200m she had to settle for 3rd place in 26.4. Rebecca Cansdale was the only other Wellington U20 competing and she showed easily her best recent form to finish 3rd in the 800m in 2.33.6. Rachael Nathan followed up her impressive 1st day win with another terrific effort in the U17 800m. She flew round unchallenged in an excellent time of 2.13.1 with Alice Thomas chasing her some way in arrears but still recording a pretty good time of 2.33.0. A good throw of 29.18m won the javelin title in the same age group for Nicky Dale and Emily Taylor made a winning debut in the 3000m in 12.32.5. In the senior age group Annette Bell ran very strongly to win the 3000m in 10.41.1 and Jacqui Brown impressed with a time of 2.20.4 when winning the 800m. Sharon Waller took the long jump title with 4.64m ahead of Nina Forney who was 2nd with 4.15m. There were veteran victories for Denise Timmis in the long jump (4.73m) and 200m (29.1) and Kathy Warhurst scored in the 3000m in 11.28.7. The finish of the day came in the U15 girls 800m where Josina Clarke made all the running to win in 2.36.2 holding off a late charge from Rachel Humberstone by the narrowest of margins. Charlotte Hanson fared best of the Wellington entry in the U13 girls 800m with 5th place in 2.43.9. Lara Thomas was 6th in 2.46.3 and Leanne Neill finished 9th in 2.54.2.

There were plenty of good performances from the mens squad. Adie Marston completed a hat-trick of wins over the two days by taking the veterans 800m title in 2.09.1. Phil Mackie won the senior triple jump with a useful 12.19m from Steve Swaby in 2nd spot with 11.31m. The same pair were 2nd and 3rd in the long jump with 6.04m and 5.71m respectively. In a great 200m finish Ricky Lea emerged in 2nd place with 24.0 just ahead of Jim Ayuba 3rd in 24.1. A well paced run in U17 800m gave Matt Hughes a win in a personal best 2.05.0 with Will Strangeway 4th in 2.13.8 and Gary Cruickshank 6th in 2.18.7. Luke Lovell picked up 2nd place in the triple jump with 11.31m and Ian Kimpton was 4th in the 3000m in 10.00.4. Wellington athletes collected 6 of the first 7 places in the U15 boy’s 800m with each one recording personal best times. Danny Roome was first home in a very good 2.13.1 with Josh Stone 2nd in 2.15.9. This pair were followed by Tom Duffield 4th in 2.23.4, Tom Herbert 5th in 2.23.9, Mark Plaskett 6th in 2.26.1 and Sam Delaney 7th in 2.26.7. David Thomas impressed when winning the 200m title in 24.7. In the U13 800m Dan Cocking crossed the line 5th in 2.38.4 with Beren Cross 7th in 2.40.3.
