Lincoln Wellington's Rachael Nathan has made her final appearance in what has been a memorable cross country season for her. She had already tucked away the Northern Counties and the English Schools titles as well as picking up the runner up spot in the National Championships. And on this occasion she was representing England Schools in a home countries international against the best athletes of Scotland, Wales and Ireland at Alfreton Park in Derbyshire. An undulating course with plenty of mud made the conditions pretty testing but the Wellington youngster skipped round the course in impressive fashion to record a totally conclusive victory. She was in no great hurry to get to the front and very sensibly waited for the early scramble to settle down. Climbing the hill at the start of the second circuit she made a decisive move and was very quickly well clear of the remainder of the field. Despite her post-race admission that the final hill had been hard work she continued to draw away and was over a hundred metres clear at the line to take the title and conclude her season in the best possible style.
