Glasgow
16-17 March 2002
Five Wellington athletes competed at the British veterans indoor championships in Glasgow and in the W65 category there
was a British record for Dot Fraser in the 400 metres with a winning time of 80.15 seconds. Not content with this she
collected a further brace of gold medals by winning the 60m in 10.09 and the 200m in 34.63 to complete a splendid two
days. Her big target for the summer is the European championships in Potsdam and she should be going there as a very
serious contender for honours. Betty Stracey did well to pick up a couple of medals with 3rd place in the 1500m in 6.42.08
and 2nd spot in the 3000m in 13.52.04. And there was a bronze medal for Denise Timmis in the 400m with a time of 65.14.
She was also in 4th place in both the 60m in 8.68 and the long jump with 4.59m. A good effort from Malc Bramhall gave him
5th place in the 400m in a good time of 55.55 but there was a disappointment for Adey Marston when his time of 2.06.92 for
4th place in the first heat of the 800m was three tenths of a second too slow to qualify him for the final.
