Euro Cross Cup - Seville, Spain

Lincoln Wellington's Matt Bowser continued his remarkable winter season with a superb victory in an international cross country event at Seville in Spain. With a field of around 100 high class athletes on the start line and confronted by a hilly 6600 metres circuit a tough race seemed inevitable for the Wellington athlete. His confidence has been boosted by his excellent recent performance at the European Championships however and he was soon showing at the head of the field. By halfway he had taken charge and was all of 60 metres clear. Although the lead diminished in the closing stages he held on comfortably enough to cross the line in a splendid time of 20 minutes 4 seconds.

As a result of this performance he has received a further call up from the national selectors and will represent Great Britain juniors in an international contest in Portugal on January 27th.

An unfortunate clash of dates means that he will not now be able to contest the Northern Championships in which he would have been strongly fancied to improve on last year's fine run for 3rd place.
