The junior/senior veteran women's race was also won in clear cut fashion with Annette Bell finishing the two medium laps
circuit well clear in 21.41. Jackie Brown had a good run to finish in 22.33 with Rowena Harrison first under 20 in 23.05.
Rebecca Cansdale (24.22) was next to finish ahead of veteran duo Ann Gilroy (25.04) and Jo Campion (25.24). Sarah Garrett
followed these two in 25.48 and there was a fair gap to Pat Kimpton who returned in 28.37. Jane Ramsden, on her debut run,
went round with Dot Fraser and the pair came in together in 30.06 with Tracy Carnall (33.40) and Jackie Fawcett (33.59)
completing the finishers.
In the younger age groups Rachael Nathan was the under 17 women's champion with Sarah Coates in the runner up spot and
Emily Taylor was comfortably ahead of Sarah Kimpton in the under 15 girls category. There was a strong run from Ian Kimpton
to win the under 15 boys race with Josh Stone in second place, Tom Herbert 3rd and Mark Plaskett 4th. The under 13 girls
winner was Rachel Humberstone with a desperate battle for 2nd place going to Josina Clarke who just outsprinted Katy Campion.
In a close finish to the under 13 boys race the champion was Joe Mayall who held off strong challenges from Jack Ramsden
and Beren Cross.
The under 11's competed over a shortened course and in a thrilling tussle in the closing stages Dan Cocking emerged a narrow
winner with the promising Lara Thomas pushing him hard all the way to the line. Jonathan Humberstone just held off brother
Neil for 3rd and 4th places with Ben Warner 5th and Leanne Neal close behind in 6th.
The next competition for most of the Wellington squad will be the Lincolnshire County cross country championships which the
club are hosting on the same West Common circuit on Sunday Jan 6th with the first race due off at 12 noon.

Championships & Handicap
23 December 2001
There was a very good turnout of almost fifty athletes for the Lincoln Wellington annual club cross country championships
which took place round the frostbound West Common circuit. Not too surprisingly the junior/senior/veteran men's race was
won very convincingly by the in-form Matt Bowser in a time of 20.54 for the two lap course of 6060 metres. Tom Doe was
next to cross the line, almost a minute behind in 21.51, and there was a good run from under 17 Jason Hall who was third
home in 22.12. Simon Bell was the first senior to finish in 22.38 and first veteran was Adrian Marston who was a little
further back in 24.10. New member Will Strangeway was runner up in the under 17 age group in 25.19 and he was followed by
Dave Humberstone and Dean Houlton who ran round together and crossed the line in 27.58 - the latter having a very steady
run after a long training session the previous day. Veteran Brian Fox finished in 28.44 just managing to keep ahead of
Steve Campion who came back in 28.50. Multi-eventer Steve Marshall enjoyed a rare outing over the country finishing in
30.36 with father and son pair Jim and Richard Diamond snapping at his heels in 30.42. The final two to finish in the
men's event were new member Dave Strangeway in 32.09 and Andy Gibson in 32.44.
