There was a good Wellington turnout in the senior/veteran women’s race and the consistent Kathy
Warhurst was in the medals with 3rd spot. Jacqui Brown did well to finish in 6th place having only
just returned from holiday and Sarah Garrett got in a nice bit of training when picking up 12th
place. Pat Kimpton’s stamina served her well when finishing 17th, comfortably ahead of Dorothy
Fraser who was one place back in 18th. In the under 17 women’s race the improving Sarah Coates
produced a pretty good effort to finish 5th but Alice Thomas was a little disappointed to be some
way behind her in 7th. A storming late run by Natasha Johnson in the under 15 girl’s race saw
her grab 5th place at the expense of team-mate Emily Taylor who was headed near the line and
finished 6th. Sarah Kimpton crossed the line 11th to give the squad the bronze team medals.
Rachel Humberstone finished a good 6th in the under 13 girls event but Sarah
Currey was not in her
best form and finished some way further back in 14th. Jack Ramsden and Beren Cross both produced
useful efforts in the under 13 boys race. The former was just the stronger in the closing stages
and picked up 8th place, one position in front of his team-mate.

A group of Lincoln Wellington athletes contested the Eastern Counties cross country championships
at Royston in Hertfordshire and, undeterred by a very testing course, returned with some
excellent results. In the senior men’s race Dean Houlton’s rich vein of form continued
and he ran strongly throughout to finish a fine 3rd and record easily his best ever result
at this level. In the under 17 men’s race Roy Smith was always among the leading trio and
finished a very good 3rd with Jason Lovell not far behind him in 4th. Matt Hughes found the
testing conditions stretching his stamina but 11th place for him gave Wellington the leading
team medals. Rebecca Cansdale is gradually finding her fitness and a very encouraging run from her
took her into the silver medal position in the under 20 women’s race. Another individual medal came
in the under 15 boys race where the promising Josh Stone did very well to finish 3rd. Ian Kimpton
was close behind in 4th place and Tom Herbert completed the silver medal winning team in 10th
position. Mark Plaskett kept going well in the same race to finish a little further back in 13th.
