Lincs League XC 2 - Louth - 11 November 2001

With many of the Club's distance squad having been in action at the previous days National Cross Country Relays there was a somewhat depleted Lincoln Wellington attendance at the 2nd Lincolnshire Cross Country League match of the Winter at Louth.

Dean Houlton gave the relays a miss to concentrate on the League race and his decision was fully vindicated with his best ever run in the league for 4th place in the senior men's race which was well up to its normal standard. Richard Diamond and Brian Fox were some way further back in 47th and 49th places respectively with Steve Campion 56th and Jim Diamond 66th completing the senior squad. Kathy Warhurst had run in the relays the previous day but decided to turn out again in the league. Two races in 24hours were clearly no problem to her as she produced another strong run for 3rd place in the senior women's race. New member Jo Campion ran well for 17th place and Mandy Culyer completed the A team in 18th spot. U-20 Rebecca Cansdale was right behind this pair in 19th position and Sarah Garrett did particularly well after losing one of her spikes in the early stages, sustaining painful lacerations when continuing barefoot, and recovering the lost shoe and finishing the race a very creditable 23rd. Veteran Dot Fraser is back in full training after her interrupted summer and had a pleasing run out for 26th place.

Jason Lovell was the only U-17 man competing for Wellington and a good effort from him saw him cross the line in 4th place, not too far behind the leaders. The club will have a strong team in that age group at the County Championships . In the younger age groups Sam Naughton did well on his debut to finish 6th in the U-13 boy's race with Alex Thomas in 14th position in the same race. And another useful effort came from Katy Campion who finished 7th in the U-13 girl's contest. Some promising club performances came in the U-11 girl's race with Lara Thomas heading the squad in 6th place and Leanne Neill 7th and Sophie Delaney 11th clinching 2nd team spot.
