In bright sunshine Ellen Leggate the
A.A.A 1,500 medallist ran away to a comprehensive victory. Although Julia
Bleasdale never gave up the chase Ellen moved further away with every stride.
Sally Eastal used her marathon background to good effect on the hard surface to
race through to third place.
Many men also choose not to run in
spikes; with nearly half the course on permanent paths it proved a wise
decision. New Zealander Rowan Hooper and Robert Malseed set the pace from the
outset. Once they broke away from the rest it was Rowan who stole a few yards
for the win.
Robert Malseed could not hide his
delight after his return from a hole in the heart operation. He now look’s
forward to another strong run for the Eastern Counties at Margate.
Simon Bell winged his way through the
field to be the R.A.F, s first scorer. But they missed their international
triathelete Tom Doughty.
Tom had decided to ride his bike the
thirty odd miles along the A1 to the venue. Unfortunutly Tom misjudged his
timing arriving just to late for the start. Hopefully this will not mean a
unscheduled warm weather trip for the R.A.F man.
Stan Owen celebrated his England call up
for the veterans international with a clear victory and a fine 17th
place overall.
