Lincoln Wellington athletes are finishing the current track & field season in style and there was another clutch of personal best performances at the final Lincolnshire League meeting at Grantham. Hayley Fox had a particularly good day as she cleared a big personal best 2.50metres in the pole vault at an open meeting at Hull in the morning and returned immediately to Grantham where she notched another good performance with a 2.40m winning effort. The 2.50m clearance gave her a new senior women’s club record.
Jacqui Brown won the senior women’s mile in 5.37.1 with Mandy Culyer some way back in 2nd in 6.37.3. And in the veterans category Kathy Warhurst took the 800m in 2.34.2 and Pat Kimpton was successful in the 5000m in 24.18.6. There were wins in the U-17 age group for Nicky Dale in the javelin (24.72m), Alice Thomas in the 800m (2.34.9), Nicola Hale in the mile (5.55.9) and Steph Bramhall in the high jump (1.50m). Emily Taylor picked up the U-15’s 1500m in 5.37.1. And in the U-13’s there were good efforts from Rachel Humberston who was 2nd in the 1500m in 5.52.8 and new member Liz Harley who was runner up in the 800m in 2.52.1.
Winning performances in the U-13 boy’s age group came from the promising Matthew Richardson in the 100m in 14.4. and from Joseph Mayall in the 300m in 51.3. The top performance from the U-15 boys was Josh Stone’s good 2nd place in the mile in a personal best 5.07.5. Ian Kimpton was 3rd in 5.30.7, also a personal best, and Wesley Caton finished 4th in 5.32.6. In the 800m Tom Herbert crossed the line 5th in 2.29.1, with Vince Harley 6th in 2.31.1 and Mark Plaskett 7th in a personal best 2.35.6.
There was a good Wellington turn out in the U-17 men’s category with Richard Duffin winning the discus with 32.57m and throwing a personal best 41.57m for 2nd place in the javelin. Luke Lovell produced a fine personal best to win the long jump with 5.58m and was also 3rd in the 100m in 12.9. Another win went to James Gilbert who cleared 1.85m in the high jump and Roy Smith also picked up a win in the mile in 4.54.1 with Jason Lovell 2nd in 5.01.5. Matt Hughes grabbed 2nd place in the 800m in 2.11.1 and Richard Ellis was 3rd in the 5000m in 18.41.1.
Another personal best went to Dean Houlton who won the 2000m steeplechase by a huge margin in 6.49.4. Adey Marston won the senior men’s mile in 4.41.8 and then had another good run for 2nd place in the 800m in 2.03.1 with Gary Johnson a close 3rd in 2.04.4. Malc Bramhall scooted round the track in impressive style to record a final Wellington vistory in the veterans 400m in 54.8.
