Despite some fine individual performances the Lincoln Wellington women’s team finished in 6th place in their final Northern League Division 2 match of the season at Leeds. Relegation to Division 3 for next season is therefore confirmed but if this years availability problems are not repeated their stay in the lower division will surely be temporary. Rowena Harrison has run consistently well all season and a splendid double in the senior 400 metres (60.4) and 200m (26.7) confirmed her good form . Denise Timmis won the ‘B’ 400m in 65.2 and the ‘B’ 200m in 28.7 and followed up with 2nd place in the long jump with 4.89m.

Annette Bell ran strongly in the 3000m but was outpaced over the last two laps and finished 2nd in 10.43.1 with Pat Kimpton running enthusiastically for 4th spot in the ‘B’ race in 14.18.3. Sharon Waller’s availability made a big difference to the team score. She finished 5th in the 100m in 14.3, 2nd in the ‘B’ long jump with 4.54m, 3rd in the ‘B’ triple jump with 8.58m and 4th in the 100m hurdles in 19.5. Some good points came in the middle distance races with Jacqui Brown recording 2.21.6 for 2nd place in the ‘A’ 800m and Kathy Warhurst finishing runner up in the ‘B’ race in 2.36.0.

In the 1500m Claire Gregory was 3rd in 5.21.9 with under 17 Sarah Coates moving up an age group to finish 2nd in the ‘B’ contest in 5.27.9. Nina Forney finished 2nd in the ‘B’ 100m in 13.8 and 4th in the triple jump in 8.67m and other useful field event points came from new member Sarah Garret, Hayley Fox, Dorothy Fraser and Linda Ellis. In the U-17 age group there was a rare 800m appearance by Rachael Nathan. Recent outings over 3000m have clearly not blunted her speed and she blitzed round totally unchallenged in a personal best 2.12.8.

Steph Bramhall and Nicky Dale won the two discus competitions with 23.38m and 15.62m respectively. The former was also third in the high jump with 1.42m and 5th in the long jump with 3.90m and the latter was 3rd in the javelin with 20.36m. The best result in the U-15 age group came in the 75m hurdles where Hayley Brylewski was a clear cut winner in 12.7. She was also 3rd in the long jump with 4.31m and 4th in the 100m in 13.8.
