North of England Men's League Division 2SE match - Saturday 4 August 2001 - Preview

At Cudworth tomorrow, the last round of the Northern League Division 2 SE match takes place. The current league position going into this match is as follows.

1) Lincoln Wellington AC 17 pts, 2) Derby 14 pts, 3) Hallamshire 12 pts, Barnsley 11 pts, Doncaster and Stainforth 6, Bingley 3

The winning team gets 6 league points, second gets 5, third gets 4 down to last place, 1 point. To be sure of winning the league we must finish no worse than 3rd.

Lincoln Wellington men's team were champions of Division 2 SE last season, something we want to repeat again. We are not counting our chickens. Barnsley were in a similar position to us this time last year, but in the last match of last season, they fielded a weak team, finishing in last place, while Lincoln Wellington won the match to pip them for the title!

The good news is that Lincoln Wellington have a strong team for tomorrow's match.

Ricky Lea and Steve Blagdon will contest the 100m. In the 200m Ricky and Jimoh Ayuba take part, while in the 400m Steve Blagdon has another outing, being partnered by Malc Bramhall who will also run the 400m hurdles.

Gary Johnson will be team manager and will compete in the 800 metres this time alongside Andy Shepherd.

In the 1500m, Richard Blagrove is partnered by Simon Bell who moves down in distance from his usual 5000 or 10000m. Dean Houlton and Adie Marston take on the 5000m, while the 3000m Steeplechase pairing will be Andy Wood and Jason Hall.

Daniel Hewitt competes again in the 400m Hurdles and Pole Vault and will also do the Javelin with Adey White. Adey White, as well as doing the Pole Vault, will also partner Nigel Winchcombe in the Hammer, Discus and Shot Put.

In the high jump, newcomer James Gilbert, fresh from his under 17 club record jump of 1.90m at the Lincs League match at Grantham last weekend, is partnered by Steve Swaby who also takes part in the long jump with Phil Mackie. Phil Mackie is partnered in the Triple Jump by Luke Lovell.
