Road Race reports/results from July 2001
Whilst the majority of the Lincoln Wellington action recently has centred round track and field performances a number of the squad have also been producing useful results on the road race circuit. At the latest Nene Valley Harriers 5K race at Ferry Meadows a strong effort by the in form Dean Houlton saw him across the line in a good time of 16 minutes 56 seconds for 14th place in a field of 171 finishers. Kathy Warhurst also ran well to finish 5th women in the race in 19.42 and retains her overall 2nd position in the series. A little further back in the field Vicky Roach finished 20th women in 23.04 and Amanda Culyer was 26th in 24.28 with both of these times being personal bests for the distance. In the under 15’s 3k race a good effort from Gary Cruickshank gave him 4th place in a time of 11.27.
At the Stamford Harriers 5K road race Annette Bell finished 5th women overall in 19.47 with Kathy Warhurst close behind her in 8th place with a time of 19.57. Vicky Roach again won her private battle with Amanda Culyer and finshed 29th in 24.34 with the latter in 31st spot in 24.59.
The Heckington ten mile road race has seen many high class performances over the years and this year was no exception with GB international Rob Birchall winning the race by a wide margin. Wellington’s Simon Bell was never going to match strides with him but ran very well to take 2nd place in a time just outside 56 minutes – very useful in the humid conditions. Annette Bell was also well in the forefront of the action and took 3rd place in the women’s race in 69 minutes.
There are also a number of track races which take place in conjuction with the Heckington Show and these are held round a banked 330 metres grass track. In the Men’s mile Simon Bell finished runner up in 4.55.0 with Adey Marston taking 3rd place in 5.03.8. The women’s mile produced a good win for Kathy Warhurst in 5.56.4 ahead of Annette Bell who was 2nd in 6.04.1 with Vicky Roach 3rd in 6.44.7 and Amanda Culyer 4th in 7.08.5. Kathy Warhust completed a fine double by scoring in the women’s 800m in 2.39.0 with Vicky Roach 4th in 2.59.6 and Amanda Culyer 5th in 3.04.4. Adey Marston was a close 2nd in the men’s 800m in 2.11.8 with under 17 Matt Hughes taking 4th spot in 2.15.6.
