The Lincoln Wellington Men’s team shrugged aside the absence of several key athletes and romped to an impressive 40 point victory in their latest Northern League division 2 match of the season at Derby. With one match to go the League title looks assured and another crack at promotion to Division 1 will follow – hopefully with the right result after last year’s near miss.

The 400m hurdles gave the club a great start on the track with Malc Bramhall winning the A race in 61.6 and Daniel Hewitt following up in the B event in 62.9. The latter also cleared 3.40m to take the A pole vault and Adie White recorded the same height to complete another maximum points haul when winning the B contest.

Ricky Lea and Jim Ayuba picked up the two 100m races in 11.2 and 11.8 respectively and although the latter also won the B 200m in 23.5 there were hamstring problems for Lea in the A 200m and he finished 4th in 26.3. There were maximum points from the 3000m steeplechase with Andy Wood impressing in the A race with 9.36.9 and youngster Jason Hall easily scoring in the B race in 10.27.9.

Andy Shepherd made a very good seasonal debut in the B 800m and finished a close 2nd in 1.59.3. Tom Doe was 3rd in the A race in 1.59.9 and also finished 4th in the 1500m in 4.07.3. Simon Bell recorded 4.14.7 for 3rd spot in the B 1500m and then went on to run 15.52.2 for 3rd place in the A 5000m. There was a big personal best for Dean Houlton in the B 5000m with 3rd position in 16.37.6 and his hard training regime continues to pay dividends.

Malc Bramhall and Adie Marston picked up useful points in the 400m races with two 4th places in 54.9 and 55.3 respectively and Adie White and Simon Dalton also scored well in the 110m hurdles with 3rd spot in the A race and 1st position in the B contest.

New signing James Gilbert cleared a good 1.85m to take 2nd place in the high jump and Luke Lovell took the same position in the B event with 1.55m before winning the B long jump with 5.17m. Carl Longley won the discus with 36.94m and was 3rd in the B javelin with 34.97m and Phil Mackie picked up 4th places in both the long jump and triple jump with 5.59m and 11.61m respectively.

Despite the absence of Nigel Winchcombe there were good points in the hammer from Adie White and Simon Dalton and the final win in the field events came from Steve Swaby who won the B triple jump with 10.86m. There was a rare baton passing disaster in 4x 100m relay resulting in a zero point score but the 4x400m squad managed to avoid a repeat and finished 3rd in 3.38.4.
