The Lincoln Wellington women’s team again suffered from the absence of key athletes in their second Northern League match of the season at Cleethorpes. After finishing in 6th place for the second successive time they will require some spectacular results from their final match in August if relegation is to be avoided. Several of the senior athletes did their best to fill all the slots and Denise Timmis led the way with 3rd places in the 100m (13.5) and 200m (27.9) and 2nd spot in the long jump (4.79m). Nina Forney was 3rd in the B long jump with 4.12m, 4th in the 400m hurdles in 81.5 and 6th in the high jump.
There were a few wins credited to the squad and Liz Ward took the B 100m in 13.2 and quickly followed up in the B 400m in 60.9. The A 400m was won fairly decisively by Rowena Harrison in 60.2. New member Alice Pengilley was a good winner of the B 200m in 27.8 and there was a personal best 5.26.6 for Sarah Coates who moved up from the under 17 age group to win the B 1500m. Ruth Bampton was 3rd in the A 800m in 2.44.3 with Kathy Warhurst runner-up in the B event in 2.35.9. The latter went on to finish 2nd in the 1500m in 5.18.4.
There were some useful performances in the 3000m with Nicola Hale finishing 2nd in the A race in 11.36.3 and Ann Gilroy returning to the track to pick up 2nd place in the B race in 12.11.3. There was minimal representation in the field events although Linda Ellis and Kathy Warhurst did manage to notch a few useful points. Both relay squads performed extremely well with Timmis, Forney, Ward and Harrison waltzing home in the 4x100m in 52.9. In the 4x400m Pengilley, Bampton, Ward and Harrison were different class and routed the opposition in a pretty useful time of 4.11.2.
The younger age groups were even more sparsely represented than the seniors. Rachael Nathan squeezed out a personal best 2.16.1 when winning the under 17 800m by a very wide margin with Alice Thomas in 2nd place in the B race in 2.37.6. Steph Bramhall cleared 1.37m for the runner-up spot in the high jump and was also 5th in the long jump with 3.91m. In the under 15 age group Natasha Johnson finished strongly to grab 2nd place in the 800m in 2.33.6. Carly Gilbert made all the running to win the B race in a personal best 2.41.8 and was also 2nd in the shot with 7.24m. There was another personal best in the 1500m with Emily Taylor running a well paced race in a high class contest to finish 5th in 5.19.8. Under 13 Kelly Gilbert moved up an age group and did well to finish 4th in the B race in 6.03.8.
