
Lincolnshire County Track and Field Championships
Grantham 12/13 May 2001 - Day 2 report

Lincoln Wellington’s Jenny Pacey carried her good form of the opening day into the second day of the County track and field championships at Grantham. She won the U20 high jump with a personal best 1.63m, the long jump with 5.16m and was a close 3rd in the 100m hurdles in 16.3. Vicky Roach won the 3000m in 13.24.0, Rowena Harrison recorded a personal best 26.4 for 3rd in the 200m and Rebecca Cansdale was 2nd in the 800m in 2.46.6.
In the senior events there were wins for Annette Bell in the 3000m in 11.01.0, Claire Gregory in the 800m in 2.30.1 and Nina Forney in the long jump with 4.02m. New member Alice Pengilley was a promising 3rd in the 200m in 28.2.Denise Timmis pulled off a veteran treble by winning the 200m in 27.7, the long jump with 4.74m and the 800m in 2.33.6 and Kathy Warhurst took the veterans 3000m in 11.26.7.
Another 3000m win went to Nicola Hale in the U17’s race with a well-paced effort in 11.22.6. Catherine Morton completed a sprint double at the championships by winning the 200m in 28.0 with Bukki Ojo 5th in 30.0. Nicky Dale took the U17 javelin title with a throw of 22.23m and Steph Bramhall was 2nd in the discus and 3rd in the high jump.
Hayley Brylewski had a good day with wins in the U15 girls 75m hurdles in 12.8 and the 200m in 26.6 with Liz Samways 5th in 29.0. Natasha Johnson ran hard for 2nd spot in the 800m in 2.32.6 with Carly Gilbert 4th in 2.45.1. And in the U13 girls 800m Kelly Gilbert was just out paced in the home straight and finished 2nd in 3.00.0.
There was a splendid effort from Nigel Winchcombe to win the veteran’s hammer competition with 51.85m and he followed up with another winning throw of 38.56m in the discus. He finished a good meeting with 2nd place in the shot with 11.21m. Steve Swaby recorded 11.42m to win the triple jump title and another senior victory went to Carl Longley with 35.85m in the discus. Richard Blagrove was soon clear in the 800m and made all the running to score in 1.59.4 with Adie Marston finishing very strongly to gain 2nd place in 2.04.6. In a very competitive 5000m run at a blistering pace Simon Bell kept on well for 2nd place in 15.50.1 with Gary Johnson taking 5th place in 17.14.0.
Phil Mackie was in great form in the U20 field events and won the long jump with 6.15m and was 2nd in the triple jump with 12.11m – both personal bests. Matt Bowser was 2nd in the 5000m in 15.43.6 – a new club under 20 record and in the 800m Jamie Dixon was 4th in 2.09.5 with Mike Bowen 5th in 2.13.4.
Four Wellington athletes contested the U17 800m. Jason Hull fared best with a personal best 2.09.3 for 2nd place. Matt Hughes was 3rd in 2.10.5 with Daniel Burton 5th in 2.13.6 and Jason Lovell 6th in 2.14.9, the latter pair also recording personal bests. Richard Ellis was another athlete in personal best form with a good 3rd in the 3000m in 10.01.3. A final U17 win went to Luke Lovell with a very useful 11.58m in the triple jump.
In the U13 800m Mark Plaskett finished 5th in 2.40.5 and in the U13’s 200m new member David Bellamy was 4th in 31.9.
