Lincoln Wellington athletes enjoyed a highly successful afternoon at the second Lincolnshire League fixture of the season which was held on home territory at Yarborough athletics track. Senior sprinter Ricky Lea looks in good early season shape and flew home in the 100m in 11.1 and followed up in the 200m in 22.7. New member Stephen Blagden was 2nd in the latter event in a pretty useful 23.3.Steve Swaby won the senior high jump with a clearance of 1.60m, Carl Longley took the discus with 33.98m and Adey White had a busy afternoon competing in five events and winning the pole vault with 2.90m and the hammer with 21.71m. Further senior wins went to Andy Shepherd with an impressive run in the mile to score in 4.43.8 and to Gary Johnson in the 3000m in 9.20.5 with Dean Houlton 4th in 9.53.0.

In the under 20 3000m there was a Wellington clean sweep with Tom Doe leading all the way for an easy win in 8.59.2. Michael Bowen was 2nd in 9.54.1 and Jamie Dixon 3nd in 10.15.6. Matt Bowser scorched round the opening lap of the 800m in sub 55 seconds. He slowed on the 2nd lap but still won very easily in 1.58.8 with Freddy Attenborough 4th in 2.15.4. A good leap of 5.89m won Phil Mackie the under 20 long jump.

The under 17’s 800m went to Jason Hall in 2.10.8 with Patrick Barber 2nd in 2.15.5 and Richard Ellis took the runner up spot in the 3000m in 10.09.6.

There was a strong run from Josh Stone to win the under 15 mile in 5.10.3 ahead of Shaun Dunn who was 2nd in 5.26.6. Tom Herbert and Mark Plaskett both recorded personal best times when finishing 4th and 5th in the 800m. In the under 13 age group Matthew Richardson won the 100m in 14.5 and was 2nd in the long jump with 3.61m with Jack Leeming 3rd and Paul Samways 5th.

The Wellington women were also in very good form with a double for veteran Denise Timmis in the long jump (4.66m) and 100m (13.7) and a win in the 3000m for Kathy Warhurst in 11.27.9. Hayley Fox cleared 2.00m to win the senior pole vault and Jo Ragan won both the mile and the 3000m with Amanda Culyer in 3rd place in the latter.

There were some fine results from the under 20’s with Liz Ward scoring in the 100m in 13.1 and the 200m in 26.9. Jenny Pacey won the 100m hurdles in 16.1 and took the shot with 10.24m. She was also runner up in the 200m in 27.5. Rowena Harrison made all of the running to win the 800m in 2.26.7 and Vicky Roach picked up the 3000m and was 2nd in the mile.

There were wins from the under 17’s by Nicky Dale in the javelin (23.44m), Alice Thomas in the mile (5.56.4), Nicola Hale in the 3000m (11.37.0) and Caroline Morton in both the 100m (13.7) and 200m (29.0). Steph Bramhall was 2nd in the high jump and Mel Turner was runner up in the 800m.

Emily Taylor set off at a ferocious pace in the under 15’s 1500m. Not surprisingly the paced slowed considerably in the later stages but she was still a clear winner in 5.33.2. Carly Gilbert ran well for 2nd place in the 800m in 2.44.1 and other useful efforts came from Charlene Jones who was 3rd in the 100m and from Liz Samways with 4th spot in the long jump.

A gun to tape run saw Rachel Humberstone easily win the under 13’s 1500m in a personal best 5.59.7 and in a thrilling sprint finish Kelly Gilbert just failed to get up to win the 800m and had to be content with 2nd place in 2.58.2.
