European Veterans Indoor Athletics Championships - Bordeaux - 8-11 March 2001


Dot Fraser, Betty Stracey and Judi Stafford came back from Bordeaux with a hatful of medals.

Dot, competing in the W60 age group rose to the challenge of Marguerite DeLavergne, the French favourite for the 400m, winning comfortably in a new best indoor time of 73.23 seconds. This time was a new European Indoor record. She now holds the European 400 m records both indoors and out.

In the 200 m Dot added silver to gold, coming second in a PB time of 32.32 secs. As a key member of the Great Britain 4x400 team, she added relay gold to her collection. She can now settle back into preparation for the main event of the year for her, the World Veterans Athletics Championships to be held in Brisbane, Australia, in July.

Betty also struck gold as a member of the winning 4x400 relay team. In the W60 age group she came 5th in the 1500 m in 6 mins 39 secs and 5th in the 3000 m in 14 minutes 11 seconds.

Judi picked up another major international Veterans medal, this time a bronze medal, vaulting 2.20m in the W45 agegroup.
