Sunday 1st January 2012:  parkruns are weekly free timed 5k runs, run every Saturday at 9am.  They are open to everyone and are safe and easy to take part in.  All parkrun events take place in traffic-free parkland surroundings and people of every ability are encouraged to take part; from those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to those with more experience; all are welcome.  There is no pressure to go fast or even to run - times vary from 14 minutes to about 60 minutes.  parkrun is a great way to get into running or just to measure your performance on a regular basis.
There are nearly 100 parkruns around the country, including Hull, Barnsley, Sheffield (2), Nottingham, Leicester and Kings Lynn, and more are being started all of the time.  There are no parkruns yet in Lincolnshire but plans are under way to set one up in Lincoln - waiting for the city council/sports partnership to make a decision).
To take part, all you need to do is register once at www.parkrun.com, print off your barcode and take it with you to each run.  You then just line up at the start and run. After you finish, you will be given a position tag; you then get it and your parkrun barcode scanned.  Results for each event will be available on Saturday afternoon.  That's all there is to it.
If you need any more information, go to the parkrun website or speak to Simon Kimpton.
