News April - June 2009

Monday 29th June 2009:  Matt Bowser's recent fine form has continued with a new Personal Best and Senior Men's Club Record 1500m time of 3m 43.41s at the BMC Grand Prix at Stretford on Saturday.
Saturday 27th June 2009:  Steve and Nina Swaby are now the proud parents of two lively boys born last night.  More news to follow later.
Saturday 27th June 2009:  Results from last weekend's Young Athletes League match at Middlesbrough are now online.
Friday 26th June 2009:  Rob Lewis previews the English Schools T&F Championships in Sheffield.
Thursday 25th June 2009:  Results from last night's second LWAC Summer Series races are now available, despite several runners not finishing in the funnel and one of the stop-watches malfunctioning.  Series records are available here.  Congratulations to Matt Bowser and Blue Haywood, who set fastest times in the all-time race records.
The next races in the series will be on 29th July.  Series runners are reminded to collect their numbers for Race 3 from the Race Desk at least 15 mins before the start of their race.
Thursday 18th June 2009:  Results from last weekend's County Schools T&F Championships in Boston are now available.
Thursday 18th June 2009:  The girls PROVISIONAL team list for the National Young Athletes Meeting on Sunday 21st June at Middlesbrough is now available. If any athlete is unavailable to compete or has any queries, can they please email lorraine.clarke@lwac.org.uk, text Lorraine on 07522 089705 or speak to Lorraine or Susan at training tonight.
Thursday 18th June 2009:  We have received notification from CLS that there is schools event taking place on the track on Thursday 2nd July.  The taster session group will not have access to the track on that day and will use the grass.  The other groups will still be able to train, but access to the track will not be allowed until 6.30pm on that evening.
Wednesday 17th June 2009:  Congratulations to Blue Haywood, who has been selected to represent Great Britain at the European Mountain Running Championships in Austria on 12th July.
Tuesday 16th June 2009:  Congratulations to Lydia Chamberlin, who broke the Senior Women's Club Record for the Heptathlon at the Combined Events Championships in Stoke at the weekend.  She achieved 4948 points over the seven events for 5th place overall and became Northern Champion.  She also gained Club Records in the 100m Hurdles and High Jump.
Monday 15th June 2009:  Street Athletics - Yarborough - Thursday 18th June - The Lincoln Sports Partnership and LWAC will be hosting a Street Athletics event on the cycle track at Yarborough this Thursday.  This consists of a series of 60m timed sprints on tarmac and is open to all ages U20.  A local final will be held later in July at Sincil Bank.  Several youngsters may then get the opportunity to represent Lincoln in the national finals at Manchester later in the Summer.  The aim of Street Athletics is primarily to encourage people who are not necessarily involved in athletics to come and have a go.  If you wish to participate, you just need to register from 6.00pm on the day, with races taking place from 6.30pm.  Spread the word to anyone you may know who could be interested in coming along and having a go. 
Can you Help Out?:  We would greatly appreciate some volunteers for assisting with registration, timekeeping and perhaps with running a leader board (no experience necessary).  If you can assist, please let Darrell Helas know this on Tuesday evening or contact via e-mail at secretary@lwac.org.uk.  LWAC have also been asked if we can provide volunteers for the next Street Athletics event on 13th July at Birchwood Leisure Centre.
Thursday 11th June 2009:  Young Athlete League Match 4 Transport - 21st June - A team coach is available for our fourth Young Athlete's League meeting on Sunday 21st June at Clairville stadium Middlesbrough.  The coach will leave Yarborough Leisure Centre at 7.30am.  This is open to all athletes, parents, coaches, supporters and officials.  Cost is £10 per person (payable on the day) plus £5 for each additional family member (team managers and officials travel free).  To guarantee a place on the bus, please reserve your seats on the bus list which will be posted in the club hut from tonight. 
For those wishing to make their own travel arrangements, directions to Clairville stadium can be obtained from the YAL website.  We would encourage as many people as possible to travel on the bus to help partially recover the hire costs.

Wednesday 10th June 2009:  Well done again to Matt Bowser, who recorded another club record with 8.16.07 in the 3000m at last night's Stretford Open Meeting.
Monday 8th June 2009:  The LWAC Road Runners League tables have been updated following yesterday's Woodhall Spa 10k.

Friday 5th June 2009:  Entry forms for the County 5000m and 10000m Track Championships are now available.  The championships will be held during the 4th Lincs League match at Grantham on 26th July.

Tuesday 2nd June 2009:  Rob Lewis reports on last Sunday's victorious outing in the Young Athletes League match in Grimsby.
Monday 1st June 2009:  Congratulations to the young athletes who gave Wellington a victory in the third round of the Young Athletes League at Grimsby yesterday.  And a special thanks to Steve Read and Ian George, who did an excellent job operating the results system.
Monday 1st June 2009:  Well done to Matt Bowser who took over 30 seconds off his previous club 5000m record with an excellent time of 14m 13.31s in the A race at Saturday's Grand Prix at Sportcity Manchester.  Earlier at the same meeting, Ian Kimpton had improved his PB to 14m 44.81s to bring him within a fraction of the old 5000m record.

Wednesday 13th May 2009:  Rob Lewis reports on an an extremely successful weekend for the LWAC squad at the County T&F Championships in Grantham.

Friday 8th May 2009:  The fixtures and results pages are currently not working.  This is due to a problem caused by the website hosting service when they migrated to a new server yesterday.  Normal service will be resumed as soon as possible.
Friday 8th May 2009:  In March, Lydia Chamberlin was part of the GB Ladies team which won the U23 Womens Indoor Combined Events International in Cardiff.  Great Britain took on France and Spain and won the team event.  Lydia herself placed fourth and was the second British woman.  Each competitor did five events - 60m Hurdles, 800m, Long Jump, High Jump and Shot.  Lydia won the High Jump with a clearance of 1.73m!
Friday 8th May 2009:  County Championship Timetable & Information - The final timetable of events for this weekend's County Championships is now available.  Numbers will be available from Darrell Helas (who will be based on lower tier of the main stand).  Please allow plenty of time before your events for number collection, warm up and reporting.  Competitors must report 10 minutes before the programme start time for track events and 20 minutes before the programme start time for field events.  LWAC have been asked to help on the gate between 12 - 1.30 on the Saturday and 3 - 4.30 on the Sunday.  We urgently require volunteers to cover a 15-20 minute period as per attached rota and any help would be greatly appreciated.  Contact secretary@lwac.org.uk if you can help.  Good luck to all those who are participating.
Wednesday 6th May 2009:  There will be a small leaving presentation for Stuart on Thursday evening around 7.45pm near the club hut.  Unfortunately this Thursday will be Stuart's last coaching session at the club before he leaves us due to a change in job location.  Thanks to Stuart for the great sessions and (break dancing demonstrations) he has put on for our junior sprinters over the past 3-4 years.  He will be missed and we wish him luck for the future.
Tuesday 5th May 2009:  SAFETY NOTICE - During the current building works, please take special care when entering through the double gates to access the track area.  There may be cyclists racing on the cycle track who will be travelling at considerable speed.
Tuesday 5th May 2009:  Lincolnshire Athletics Association has been asked if it wishes to enter a team into the CAU Inter-Counties match.  This year's competition is at Bedford on May 24th and 25th.
Athletes may only compete if they have reached the entry standards and Lincolnshire may enter one athlete per event.

Anybody wishing to be considered for selection should contact Debbie Wood (via: honsec4gac@granthamac.com or info@granthamac.com) by 10th May or in person at the County Championships 9th & 10th May at Grantham Stadium.
Tuesday 5th May 2009:  Congratulations to our Northern League squad who, despite not having all events filled, managed a very creditable 2nd place in the match at Derby.  We also hope for a speedy recovery to Hayley Fox, who pulled a calf muscle at the meeting.

Thursday 30th April 2009:  The first Young Athletes match is at Huntington Stadium, York this Sunday, 3rd May.
Directions can be found at http://www.runtrackdir.com/details.asp?track=york.  For those that may be unsure of where they are going, we will be meeting at Yarborough Leisure Centre at 8.30am.  This will give us plenty of time to arrive in time for the first 
event at 11.30am (we have to hand the team sheets in by 11.15am).

Thursday 30th April 2009:  It is with sadness that we report the death of Brian Simmonite.  Brian, a member of the road running group for several years, represented the club in many races including the Round Norfolk Relay and would have run the London Marathon a couple of years ago if he had not been too ill.  Our thoughts are with his family.

Monday 27th April 2009:  UK Young Athletes League Fixture 1, York, Sunday 3rd May - Provisional team lists for the first fixture will be posted near to the club hut at the end of tomorrow night's training.
Athletes selected will have to make their own way to this fixture.  Directions to Huntington Stadium, York can be found at http://www.runtrackdir.com/details.asp?track=york.  Please note that there are roadworks at the Hopgrove roundabout (junction of A64/A1237/A1036), so please allow plenty of time.
The club is looking to provide a bus for the next fixture hosted by Blaydon and Elswick on 17th May and for the Middlesbrough fixture on 21st June (details to follow). Athletes will need to make their own transport arrangements for the other fixtures.

Sunday 19th April 2009:  Another report from Rob Lewis, this time on yesterday's successful outing for the LWAC women at the National 6-stage road relays at Sutton Park.
Saturday 18th April 2009:  Rob Lewis reports on the European Vets Indoor Championships in Italy, the Mansfield Open meeting and the Friskney Half Marathon.
Friday 17th April 2009:  We will be starting a weekly taster session for young athletes commencing on Thursday 23rd April, running for 10 weeks from 5.15pm to 6.15pm.  The cost will be £25.00 payable on the first evening.  Places are limited, but there are still a few places left.  Anybody interested should send their details to Alison Dale.
Friday 17th April 2009:  Three LWAC athletes achieved the English Schools Entry Standard at the Mansfield Open Meeting on 5th April.  Joe Dunderdale's throw of 53.54m smashed the LWAC U17 Mens Javelin record by almost 7m (the previous record had been held by Ian King for 25years).  Hannah Dunderdale threw the Javelin 30.09m.  And new member Sarah Stanhope set a new club record with 39.78m in the U17 Womens Hammer.  Well done to all three of them.
Friday 17th April 2009:  Attention all Under 13, 15 and 17 Athletes - please see the attached form concerning the National Young Athletes League.  If anyone is interested in competing please fill in the attached form and return to Neil Campbell or your coach asap. Neil is usually at the track on a Tuesday and Thursday night from about 7.30pm until 8pm if anyone wants to have a word/return the form.
Friday 3rd April 2009:  Dave Humberstone's group will not be training on Tuesday 7th April due to Dave being on holiday.  Normal service will resume on Thursday 9th April.
Thursday 2nd April 2009:  Just a reminder that the first Lincs League meeting takes place on 19th April.
Declaration sheets will be posted on the board this evening for individuals to add their names.  Events do not need to be selected at this stage, other than indicating if you wish to take part in hurdles races.
The declaration sheets need to be entered prior to the first event, so everyone is encouraged to pre-enter as far as possible.  No cost is involved by pre-entering, costs of staging the meeting will be recovered by charging a stadium entry fee on the day.
Denise Timmis is managing the Female team but we still need a volunteers for the following roles:
Mens Team Manager: To collect and collate the entry sheets and act as a point of contact on the day.
Gate Duty Assistants: To collect admission fees on the gate for a short period of time (these duties are being shared amongst competing clubs).
Hurdles Steward: To assist with setting up of hurdles and removal after races.
If we can't find volunteers then we can't guarantee our club's participation at this meeting.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Contact secretary@lwac.org.uk if you can spare a little time to help.
