News April - June 2007


Friday 29th June 2007:  Results from Wednesday night's second LWAC Summer Series races are now available.  Despite iffy weather, there was a good turnout.  Congratulations to Ian Maplethorpe, who set a series U15 3k record with 9m 59s and to Dot Fraser who set a new 5k club record for V70 Women with 29m 30s.  Series records are available here.  The next race in the series will be on 25th July.
Thursday 28th June 2007:  Five Wellington athletes have made the Lincolnshire team for the English Schools track and field championships at Birmingham next month. Well done to Lara Thomas (int girls 800m), Georgia Ball (int girls 1500), Shane Robinson (int boys 1500m chase), Mary-Ann Phillips (jun girls 100m and 4x100relay) and Caitlin Lynch (jun girls 4x100 relay). Additionally, Blue Haywood will be representing Nottinghamshire (int girls 3000m).
Thursday 28th June 2007:  Well done to Blue Haywood who will represent Great Britain in the 3000 metres at the European Youth Olympics in Belgrade in late July.  And well done to Matt Bowser with a new club road 5k record of 14m 50s in the top class Horwich 5k on June 24th. In the same event Les Ball improved his own club V40 record to a very creditable 16m 17s.
Wednesday 27th June 2007:  IMPORTANT - It has been brought to the attention of the committee that some older boys and men urinating at the side of the track during the training session. This is not acceptable behaviour and must stop immediately. If the older boys/men need to urinate during the session can they please use the toilets provided.
Tuesday 26th June 2007:  Well done to all our athletes and officials who represented Lincoln Wellington AC at Shildon in match 4 of the Young Athletes League.  Despite a few absences, the team finished a creditable third place behind Wakefield and Blaydon.  A reminder that the final fixture is at Middlesbrough on Sunday 22nd July versus Middlesbrough (Mandale), Harrogate and Morpeth. A victory in the last fixture could mean a very respectable fourth place finish in our first season in this division.  Bus details will appear shortly on club noticeboard.  Unofficial league table here.
Sunday 24th June 2007:  A reminder to all members that we are holding an EGM on Tuesday 26th June 2007 under the grandstand at 7.45pm - please remind all members - we need as many to stay behind for a few minutes after training to agree to a few amendments to the constitution that will mean we qualify for some funding from the Inland Revenue.
Tuesday 19th June 2007:  LWAC have applied to join the Community Amateur Sports Club scheme which means that we can claim tax back on subscriptions paid.  To finalise our application we need to amend the constitution slightly.  To do this we have to call an EGM, this will be held on Tuesday 26th June 2007 at 7.45pm underneath the Grandstand.  We need a quorum of 30 people to attend so please inform the members of your groups that the meeting is to take place.  Val Powley has a copy of the amendments that are needed to the constitution and will have them with her this evening at training.
Tuesday 19th June 2007:  Lincoln Wellington were winners of match 3 of the Young Athletes League at Boston on 3rd June. Congratulations to all athletes and officials who contributed to an outstanding overall team performance and added to our points tally. This result places us well up the unofficial league table.
A reminder that match 4 is on 24th June at Shildon.  Bus for athletes, officials and parents leaves Yarborough at 6.45 am, seats £5.  You must pre-book seats (put names on list in club hut) to guarantee a place on the bus.
Thursday 14th June 2007:  We are holding a bowling event at Lincoln Superbowl on Saturday 30th June at 7.30pm.  Cost will be £9 for 2 games.  All are welcome.  If you would like to attend, put your name on the list in the clubhouse by Thursday 21st June.
Monday 4th June 2007:  An item of clothing was left behind at the Northern League match on Saturday at Boston by one of our female athletes.  If you think it may be yours, please contact me via email or speak to Nina Swaby at training on Tuesday.
Thursday 24th May 2007:  Results from last night's first LWAC Summer Series races are now available.  With a record turnout, there were some excellent runs, especially from Shane Robinson who set a new U17M club record with 16m 22s and Blue Haywood who set a new U17W club record with 16m 54s.  The next race in the series will be on 27th June.
Sunday 20th May 2007:  Message to all members from the club secretary, Val Powley - "We are trying to improve communication within the club which is always difficult with such a large membership. On Tuesday, I will place in the hut a list of members' email addresses that we currently hold.  Can you take a few minutes to check your details on this list and amend where necessary.  In future, where possible, we will use email to communicate with you as members - any member that does not have email will receive the communication in the post."
Thursday 17th May 2007:  IMPORTANT - please see the letter regarding track access fees following the increases imposed on us by CLS (Yarborough Leisure Centre management).  The 31 weeks referred to in the letter covers the period from the start of the summer track season until our subs renewal date of 1st November.
Thursday 17th May 2007:  Young Athlete Match at Cleckheaton on Sunday 20th May.  Bus for athletes and parents leaves Yarborough @ 8.45am, seats £5 each. You must pre-book seats (put names on list in club hut) to guarantee a place on the bus as it is likely all places will be taken.
Wednesday 16th May 2007:  Val Powley has produced an important notice regarding posts on the committee.  Please read her notice and offer help if you are able to.  The club cannot operate without a supply of willing volunteers.
Wednesday 16th May 2007:  A brief report by Rob Lewis on the re-opening of the Oxford track where the 4-minute mile was broken in 1954.
Monday 14h May 2007:  Updated results for the first two Lincs League T&F matches are now available.
Monday 14th May 2007:  Results for last weekend's T&F County Champs at Grantham are now available.  Please note that there are some name and club (and possibly other) errors in the results.
Tuesday 8th May 2007:  Athletes, parents and supporters are reminded that no ball games are allowed in the vicinity of the track on club nights. This is on the grounds of health and safety and the potential that exists for injury to our athletes and users of the adjacent cycle track. Your help is required in refraining from playing ball games around the track on training evenings and encouraging others not to do so.
Sunday 6th May 2007:  Julia White has produced the final programme for next weekend's County T&F Championships at Grantham.  Please note there are considerable differences from the provisional timetable due to the high number of entries this year. Could all coaches please ensure their athletes are aware of this.
Sunday 29th April 2007:  Match scores from Lincs League Match 1 and Match 2 are now available.
Friday 27th April 2007:  Details of this year's LWAC 5k race series are now available.  There will also be 3k and 1k races for the younger runners.  Age groups for 2007 are explained here.  Prices and race arrangements remain the same as last year.

Monday 23rd April 2007:  Congratulations to Tom Straw, who broke the club's U17 men's mile record at Sheffield's Festival of Athletics last Saturday. In a well-paced race he finished strongly with a last lap of 65s to record a finishing time of 4m 42.0s.
Sunday 22nd April 2007:  Results for LWAC runners in today's London Marathon are now available.  Congratulations to them all.
Saturday 21st April 2007:  Colm McCoy has produced an excellent report on his latest adventure in the Marathon des Sables in Morocco.
Friday 20th April 2007:  Results from last weekend's first Lincs League match in Boston are now available from the Lincs County AA website.
Thursday 19th April 2007:  The Field programme for Lincs League T&F matches has been revised.
Thursday 19th April 2007:  Programmes for this year's Lincs League T&F meetings are now available.   The Field programme is the same for meetings 2, 3 and 4.  There are different programmes for Track matches 1 and 3 and for Track matches 2 and 4.
