Wednesday 12th July 2006: Lincoln Wellington has introduced the Norwich
Union Shine Award scheme into the club for the first time this year. The Shine award scheme is designed to allow young
athletes to attempt a series of physical challenges and rewards them for their efforts.
The project was launched at the beginning of the academic year for athletes participating in Sunday morning sportshall
sessions. Athletes undertook the agility triathlon and pentathlon awards. In March a successful £300 grant
application was made to Lincoln City Council to fund the purchase of certificates and medals to pilot the project.
Since then a number of pilot Shine award sessions have been introduced to club nights for some of the junior groups.
These have led to fitness and fun awards for the level 1 athletes (u9’s), healthy athlete awards for the level 2
athletes (9-11’s) and Fit Athlete awards for the level 3 athletes (11-15’s). Some athletes have also achieved cross country awards based on cross country race results, a time trial and fitness and conditioning activities.
In total 76 awards have been achieved. The next steps are to hold a club presentation evening
on Tuesday 18th July at 7.15pm and
possibly introduce Star track awards based on points gained for selected running for speed, running for endurance,
jumping and throwing events. It is hoped that this will assist our coaches in the development of young athletes for
competition, especially in the throwing and jumping events.
Monday 10th July 2006:
Results from yesterday's Spilsby
Show 6 are now available.
