News July - September 2005

Monday 26th September 2005:  A combined team from Lincoln Wellington, Lakeside & Lincoln & District competed in the Round Norfolk Relay over the weekend.  The team finished 30th overall and 5th in category, exceeding expectations and finishing 1hr 41mins earlier than planned.  Although this caused some runners and supporters to have much less sleep than expected (or none!), it was an excellent performance.  Full results now available on the Round Norfolk Relay website.  A full report should be available here later this week.
Thursday 22nd September 2005:  Congratulations to Lincoln Wellington AC athlete Lydia Chamberlin, who finished 5th in the English Schools Senior Girls Heptathlon competition in Southampton last weekend.  Lydia achieved a personal best and club record time of 14.6s in the 100m Hurdles.  This helped her to achieve another club record on 4377 points overall in the Heptathlon.  The English Schools multi-events championships is the biggest event of its kind in the world.
Saturday 10th September 2005:  A significantly under-strength Wellington team had a disappointing time at today's Northern League playoff match for promotion to Division 1.  With several team regulars missing, the team finished 6th.  Full results available here.  On the plus side, a number of age-group club records were set by Dot Fraser, Mal Bramhall and Nigel Winchcombe.

Friday 26th August 2005:  Congratulation to Nigel Winchcombe, who today has won a silver medal at the World Masters Championships in San Sebastian, Spain.  Nigel threw 53.52m in the M45-49 Hammer competition.  Just for good measure, this is a club record as well.  This caps an excellent season for Nigel, who now has a full set of medals from World Masters championships, Bronze in Brisbane, Australia in 2001, Gold in Puerto Rico in 2003 and now Silver in San Sebastian, Spain in 2005.
Thursday 25th August 2005:  Keith Ridgeway is still ill and so this Sunday's field event training session is cancelled. It is expected that his sessions will restart on Sunday 4th September.
Thursday 25th August 2005:  The results of the fourth and final LWAC Summer Series Races are now available.  The series results are now also online.  Congratulation to all of the winners.  Two club records were set - Ashley Smith ran 16m 58s in the U17M race and Jim Edwards set a new MV65 record of 19m 19s.

Sunday 14th August 2005:  The LWAC track and field team capped a very fruitful few weeks last weekend when coming from behind to take the Northern League Division 2EC title after a convincing win at Derby.  This means that the team qualify for the playoff for promotion to Division 1.  This will take place at Cleckheaton on 10th September. To cap the day off, Geoff Powley - the men's team manager - led from the front by setting a V40 club record of 15mins 05.8secs in the 3000m steeplechase.  Read the match report by Becki Jones.  In recent weeks, the team have also qualified for the GRE/BAL Plate Final at Bedford on 27th August and the Northern Inter-Club Cup Final at Cudworth on 28th August.  These are excellent performances from a relatively small squad.  Very well done to all concerned and let's hope for success in the finals.
